After some days of quality time on the beautiful island of Folegandros, in the Southern Cyclades, it was time to embark the CARNIVAL VISTA in Heraklion (Crete). We spent five days on this newest Carnival Cruise Line vessel to make reports for a couple of magazines.

Carnival Cruise Line are somewhat known for their Vegas-like fun ships so I tried to be prepared for lots of entertainment and an overload of attractions.

After one day Mike said to me, “you like it here, no?”

And yes, I admit I was totally at peace on this fun ship. The CARNIVAL VISTA has lots of things I love: friendly crew, good food (including healthy options), lots of outdoor spaces with a sea view and good espresso.

I even did the Skyride, one of THE attractions on board. After standing in line for 30 minutes in the warm Greek sun, it was my turn to race in my covered cycle against a seven year old (he won!). The track runs around the ship and it was fun to see the water and sunbathing passengers under me.

Of course this ship has waterslides too. Yours truly tried the Kaleid-O-Slide. I installed myself on a donut and made my way down through the colorful covered slide. Fun!

Fun…I don’t think I ever heard the word so many times during a cruise, but oddly it didn’t bother me. I was totally free to plan my day the way I wanted: relaxing in the spa, chilling in the serenity area (no children allowed and free), reading a book in the lounge chairs at the library outside, dancing in the Havana club, discover the IMAX theatre and tasting the burritos at BlueIguana.

Even though the ship was fully booked, it never seemed too crowded, unless it was at the show in the evening. I mostly look for the quiet spots on a ship and I always found one on this ship. For those who want to socialize there are many opportunities to do so, in the pubs, pools, during quizzes and more.

Music is around everywhere but not too loud, fortunately. There is plenty of entertainment, enjoyed by young and old. We particularly liked the music in the Havana club where stylish Latin couples were dancing while the band members were giving the best of themselves. Later we were more brave on the dance floor in the Liquid Lounge, dancing the night away.

Mike did a beer tasting and returned satisfied after it (only partly because of the alcohol). This new cruise ship has its own brewery. The Red Frog Pub and Brewery produces three different beers. Well you probably already read about it on this blog

I don’t think we ever stayed so much on the ship. Of course the goal of the trip was to report about the ship and not the destination. So we both had to work, but it was also just very relaxing and yes fun to stay on board.

I can imagine traveling with CARNIVAL VISTA with my family. The kids having fun in the teen zones and water park, the adults sun bathing, going on excursions and eating in a different restaurant every evening. Life is easy on board CARNIVAL VISTA.
