Nobody could believe what a stunningly beautiful day it was, on May 10th 2017, for the christening of AMAKRISTINA, AmaWaterways‘ newest river cruise ship.

After too many days of cold and grey weather, summer-like conditions had finally arrived in Europe, and in Lahnstein, a town with an idyllic view on the river Rhine.

It was the most perfect day for the ceremony that welcomed AmaWaterways’ 20th ship and marked the 15th year anniversary of the company.

The brand new ship was named after Kristin Karst, Co-Owner and Executive Vice President of AmaWaterways, and indeed, Godmother of the AMAKRISTINA.

When Kristin and Rudi disembarked they started to greet all the guests personally, in their very own warm style. I have been on several christenings but on none of them I had this feeling of “being part of the family.” The cocktail reception felt like a wedding party and it was nice seeing friends and acquaintances.

Captain Jan de Bruijn and Peter Labonte, the Mayor of Lahnstein welcomed Kristin Karst and her husband (and President and Co-Owner) Rudi Schreiner. Also present was Vice President, Sales and Co-Owner Gary Murphy and past Godmothers.

There was so much love and passion in the speeches that time flew away. Very cute was the performance of the local children’s choir.

Celebrations continued into the evening with a gala dinner and were culminated with a surprise fireworks display.

AMAKRISTINA will be sailing the Rhine River between Amsterdam and Basel.

The “Ama” in AmaWaterways is related to the French word “amour” and indeed, we love sailing the rivers with this company.
