It was a Saturday night in Hamburg and much to my surprise I found a pilot ladder in my hotel room.
Hamburg is one of my favourite European cities, and I am lucky to be there a couple of times per year. It is a vibrant city with ships and shops, design and creativity, and for me some very good friends too. Worth a city trip, oh yes.
In the past I often stayed in the 25Hours Hotel in the “Gaswerk” district. It is a young hotel which I liked very much for its young atmosphere and design-with-a-twist. One of the features is the Mini car that you can use to discover the city.
Nadine and Julia from Hamburg Tourismus both told me I had to try the other 25Hours hotel too, in the new trendy “HafenCity” area. Which I did in September.
I discovered a highly original, creative, artistic, well-designed hotel, which really was to my taste. It is of course maritime inspired. The more I looked around, the more I discovered nautical details. A Hapag-Lloyd container in the lobby. A log book in each room. A bucket with a rope in the bathroom (a bin), a message in a bottle, and the pilot ladder.

Each room has a logbook where guests can write their comments

Throughout the hotel little design winks make you smile and create a feel good atmosphere. It is the first time I was accompanied throughout the night by a “schlafschaf” (German for a sleep sheep).

The room has a mini library with interesting travel and design publications.

The usually boring “Do not disturb” sign has been replaced by a little booklet with several reasons why you do not want to be disturbed. A hangover is one option.

The hotel is easily accessible from the motorway and has an underground car park. For the U-Bahn you need to walk 5 minutes, and the trendy Speicherstadt area, the Portugese area and the Landungsbrücken are just 10-20 minutes away. If you do not want to walk you can rent one of the bikes. Or the Mini.
For sure one of my favourite hotels in Hamburg.
